Matthew 26:38-42King James Version (KJV)
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
42 He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
Dear Friends,
When Jesus left glory He was aware of what His assignment was. Each step of the way we find Him fulfilling His purpose according to the will of God. Searching scriptures, when his parents went looking for him and found Jesus teaching in the temple, he boldly proclaimed that "I must be about my Father's business." Before He raised Lazarus from the dead, He gave honor to God. At His baptism He told John that it was necessary to fulfill all righteousness and God spoke from heaven, "this is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased hear ye him."
In today's scripture Jesus is in the Garden of Gethsemane. He knows that His earthly journey is almost over. He is in human form. The human nature of Jesus petitions God to let the cup pass if at all possible. However, Jesus ends his Father may I? (if it be possible) with NEVERTHELESS THY WILL BE DONE!
When the assignment seems to be overwhelming, the path unclear -- Father may I? Ask God to help you. When you are pressed to the mat. When you are tempted to cave in and look back. -- Father may I? Ask God to help you. When the enemy causes you to question whether God gave you the assignment in the first place. When others call you foolish because of your faith. -- Father may I? Ask God to help you.
Look in the cup. It is the cup of salvation. Seek the face of Jesus. He is the Author and Finisher of Our Faith. We take our orders from Him. He makes no mistakes. He never sends us to battle alone. When we receive our marching orders we can move ahead unafraid.
God will provide all that we need.
When we come out of the Garden,we find our strength is restored. Hallelujah. We can stand on the shoulders of our Savior who leads the way.
Brothers and Sisters can't you hear the shout of victory today:
NEVERTHELESS NOT AS I WILL BUT THY WILL BE DONE!
GLORY TO GOD!
in Christ,
Sis. Stephanie
