Titus 3:8-9King James Version (KJV)
8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.
9 But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
Dear Friends,
I went to visit the church where my brother in-law is Pastor today. The sermon was powerful. The text:
- Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
- Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. - James 2:18-19
We cannot work our way to heaven. We are saved by grace through faith. Yet the outworking of our faith is good works. What are good works? The work is not the passing out of the food in the line to the hungry. That alone is not enough. The work maintained is the love that prompts the act.
Love, peace, understanding, patience, long-suffering, self-control. All of these are acts of faith. They are the work of the Spirit in us. Through the Holy Spirit by faith we are enabled to maintain good work. We are empowered to sow good seed. We are led to lend a helping hand. We are inspired to feed, to clothe, to visit those in need. Glory to God.
Keep up the good work. Be clear always in understanding that in and of ourselves we can do nothing. Yet, the scriptures instruct us to "maintain good works." How?
"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." - Philippians 4:13
God bless.
In Christ,
Sis. Stephanie
