Numbers 9:18-22King James Version (KJV)
18 At the commandment of the Lord the children of Israel journeyed, and at the commandment of the Lord they pitched: as long as the cloud abode upon the tabernacle they rested in their tents.
19 And when the cloud tarried long upon the tabernacle many days, then the children of Israel kept the charge of the Lord, and journeyed not.
20 And so it was, when the cloud was a few days upon the tabernacle; according to the commandment of the Lord they abode in their tents, and according to the commandment of the Lord they journeyed.
21 And so it was, when the cloud abode from even unto the morning, and that the cloud was taken up in the morning, then they journeyed: whether it was by day or by night that the cloud was taken up, they journeyed.
22 Or whether it were two days, or a month, or a year, that the cloud tarried upon the tabernacle, remaining thereon, the children of Israel abode in their tents, and journeyed not: but when it was taken up, they journeyed.
Dear Friends,
My brother mentioned a phrase he heard recently: "The Journey of Remembering." Thus, the Lord revealed the theme for today's blog entry.
Memories are journeys. They are maps of our life experiences. Memories are places that we can visit in order to reflect, review and yes, remember.
Not all journeys in life are pleasant to recall. Yet, upon reflection on some of life's unpleasantness we can study methods to avoid future pitfalls.
The children of Israel had a great deal of experience with "journey." Journey in its singular form because the totality of the experience served a singular purpose. The purpose was to draw them nearer to Faithful God.
Each step actual and spiritual was planned by God to accomplish His will.
In the ninth chapter of Numbers we read about a specific "leg" of their journey. The key is obedience. They moved as God commanded. Their directions were calculated by the Holy Spirit. To journey or not to journey was dictated by the position of the clouds.
My take away is to look up to the clouds. Look to the hills for direction. As you take each step of your journey of remembering, consider how far the Lord has brought you. Yes, there have been hills, valleys and mountains.
Yet, in each valley, on the side of each hill and at the peak of each and every mountain, we see Jesus.
Jesus Our Leader. The Holy Spirit Our Tour Guide. Both carry out the will of Father God in our lives.
I praise the Lord for the journey. I see a glimpse of heaven and the joy awaiting. Heaven is the destination. Each chapter, each line is but preparation for the arrival.
Ponder the journey. There is joy in the journey.
The journey of remembering...
in Christ,
Sis. Stephanie
