"Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." - St. Matthew 5:8-10
Dear Friends,
Whenever we watch the news via television/Internet, listen to radio news broadcast or read news reports there always seems to be some sort of controversy. Synonyms for controversy include: disagreement, dispute, argument, debate or storm. Sometimes controversy seems to arise out of nowhere and for no apparent reason. There are times when it is created on purpose. Regardless of the surrounding circumstances it is a force to contend with.
Jesus was not a stranger to controversy. There was much disagreement over who He "really" was. People disputed His authority. There were debates surrounding His teachings and storms arose. The CONSTANT was, however, that in spite of disagreements, disputes, debates and storms the Person of Jesus Christ, His message and mission never changed and was never swayed by it. Hebrews 13:8 reads: "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever.
As Christians we cannot always avoid controversy. However, our response to and position regarding controversy should reflect the love of Christ.
St. Matthew 5:14-16 "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven."
"Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation. Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms."
- James 5:11-13
"This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men.But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain. - Titus 3:8-9
in Christ,
Sis. Stephanie
