"Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance."
- Psalms 42:5
Dear Friends,
It is always too soon to quit. The Psalmist finds himself in deep despair, depression. When one's soul is disquieted, it cannot be calmed. The spirit within, the emotions are in a state of unrest. At times there is no explanation, we can feel out of sorts. Other times we may be able to name specific incidents or individuals that we consider the source of our discontent. However, we, like the Psalmist, can choose to shift our focus to what it true rather than judging by appearances. The truth is there is always help, there is always hope in God.
How do we tap into this source of revitalization when all seems dismal? It is through praising God that spirits our lifted. Why praise him? The Psalmist gives one reason: "for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance." The help of God's countenance is acknowledging that He is always present. He is not absent from us in trouble.
Psalms 46:1 "
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."
13:8 Hebrews
"Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to day, and for ever."
Isaiah 51:2-3
"To proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort all that mourn; To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.
Remain hopeful. Continue to be filled with hope.
"Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
- Colossians 3:16
Don't lose hope! Help is on the way!
in Christ,
Sis. Stephanie
