"For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O Lord of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee." - Psalms 84:10-12
Dear Friends,
I remember at nine years old being baptized and becoming a member of the Junior Usher Board. Being an usher was a serious responsibility. The usher board was one of the strongest auxiliaries (ministries) at the church. Ushers were trained, met together and prayed together. It was a privilege to be an usher standing on door number one, two or three to invite people into the Lord's House. There were Sundays when one might be assigned a rotation on the floor to help show members and visitors to a seat. Ushers, ambassadors for Christ illustrating how He has welcomed us to be a part of His body. It is no wonder the Psalmist says pays homage to the "doorkeepers."
The Holy Spirit nudged me in considering these scriptures that I am still an usher. I still have the responsibility as do all Christians of welcoming others to Christ. "Standing at the door" ready to tell others about Christ:
"But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear..." I Peter 3:15
Let the ushers know that you appreciate them and the work they do in ministry. And let us be welcoming in the way we receive those that God send into our lives.
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." Galatians 6:9-10
in Christ,
Sis. Stephanie
