"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."
- Philippians 4:8
Dear Friend,
Dear Friend,
There are so many things that capture are attention from news reports, televisions ads, phone conversations, emails, overheard conversations, that are often questionable, just, or pure. Much around us is not pure or lovely. Finding the beautiful often means we have to search or dig for it even when it is right in front of us. Rev. Tyus used to say: "if you play around with trash some will get in your eyes." Well perhaps trash in the eyes has clouded the vision, polluted it, making it harder to see or trust the beautiful.
In Psalm 48:1-3 we read:
" Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion, on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.God is known in her palaces for a refuge."
The beauty lies in knowing the Lord. In the midst of the "not so beautiful" and smack dab in the middle of turmoil, the "whatsoever" of Philippians 4 is to consider the greatness of God.
In politics we hear about the situation room where policies are decided where great matters are deliberated. Well, let there be this assurance today and in times when the clouds hover in our lives Beautiful is, beautiful for the situation, for the whole earth all of it is under the control of the great King the Almighty God.
In the tough spots and tight spaces, think on these things. It is lovely to know that Spring still follows winter. The flowers will bloom. In the midst of the very smelly a sweet fragrance a Sweet Spirit is always near. When news reports issue tragedy the Bible spells hope. "God is known in her palaces for a refuge."
"I trust in God where ever I may be, upon the land or out on the rolling sea. For come what may from day to day, My Heavenly Father watches over me."
God bless!
Sis. Stephanie D. K. Tyus
